A
CONDENSED
BIOGRAPHY |
 |
| Michael
Paysden was born near London, UK, in the early
50s and began painting & writing very early
on. Following a Foundation Year at Maidstone College
of Art, he graduated from Brighton University with
a BA(Hon) in Fine Art. He has had exhibitions in
the UK, Croatia, Italy and Australia. His work also
includes sculpture, etchings and engravings, performance,
music, film and animation. At present he is based
in Italy. |
| His
current projects include the creation of a series
of books, destined to become part of a "library"
that will, in itself, form an art object/installation.
These books, printed in limited editions and assembled
by hand, are termed "Surrealist
Novels in Images". Each volume consists
of a sequence of automatic drawings, presented exactly
in the order in which they were created and without
further modification. Most images include a text,
also created automatically while drawing. The images
and texts are to be viewed as whole, not separately,
and together they form a story, or "Novel",
captured from the artist's unconscious mind. There
is no censorship of what emerges. |
